Have You Ever had a Slice Of The Best Pizza in New York State? A Legacy Is Gone But Not Forgotten In This Little Town

If you've ever been to a little town in upstate NY called Oneonta you may have eaten the best pizza ever called Ruffinos that have been around since 1972! Maybe you have cruised through main street you have probably seen Joe Ruffinio tossing pizzas in the air through the huge windows facing Main St. For the last 45 years Joe and Joe Sr have tossed fresh dough in the air countless times and it seems like there are so many pizza tosses in memories of all who have lived here. It became an interaction that became familiar in daily life and when you had the chance to go in and eat some food it was such a treat.

Joe would always greet everyone usually knowing most people very personally from his friends and family scattered around the town! There was a nice deck in the back of the restaurant with the Catskill Mountains in the back ground across the valley. Inside there was mirrors on both walls in the front dining area and as a kid it was always a trip to take a gaze into infinity.

Beyond feeling at home here, those familar smells were unlike any other Pizzeria out there! There Pizza and food was some of the best Iv'e ever had. They were consistent and the quality was always on point. Joe and the his family always interacted with everyone through the ups and downs of life. Having to deal with everyones everyday life brought the community closer through pizza!

Eating here for the last thirty years and then finding out its closed is a shocker. Im so grateful I was able to relish a couple last slices in April. Ruffinos and everything nostalgic about it will be sorely missed over time and just reminds us that nothing this good lasts forever in this temporary material world.
