Pixabay Curation Magazine: Reponse from the Artist I've featured + Paypal Conversions
In my previous announcement post, I gave a small first donation to the creator of the image I had used. Well, yesterday I've received a personal response to the donation message I included with that donation. I'm a bit taken aback by the positivity of the message I've received, I'll share it below.
Small Success
I didn't really expect a response from the artist after I sent him a 3 dollar donation. I would have thought that I'd might get some responses after my magazine had been issued a couple of times, but not as fast as now. This really shows me that I've got a potentially great idea here, one that can really bring some much needed recognition for these artists. I'm super stoked to start work right away, so I can publish my first 'official' issue next week.
Promo-Steem
As you can see by the email above, this has already caused one person to become a member of Steemit. I can only imagine how much impact this might have when we reach 100 issues of this magazine. So, Naji if you're reading this, welcome to Steemit and feel free to ask any questions you might have about this platform. I would also be more than happy to provide you with a small delegation of Steem Power to get you started here!
Conversions to Paypal
I've also been wondering how I'm going to handle converting the SBD post rewards to my Paypal account, so I can send the donations through Pixabay. If anyone has any ideas how this could be done cheap and easy, please let me know.
I could always send the artist a personal message first and ask them if they'd rather receive the donation via Bitcoin. Though, there will be some cases where this wouldn't be possible, I assume. So finding a decent way of converting SBD to Paypal is adamant to the success of this project.
I really found it cool that you did this @daan
Im always wondering a bit how much recognition these guys are getting from there work, because everybody uses their stuff over and over.
Ik ben benieuwd of je er nog achter ben gekomen welke image het meest gebruikt is?
I'm pretty sure that they don't get a lot of donations, not too many people think about that aspect. I've seen it with many open-source software projects, some of these volunteers put 20 - 30 hours per week in the project, without compensation. While those projects don't usually get less than 500 dollars per month in donations.
Now, I would assume that public domain images and their creators get a lot less recognition than open-source software projects. The absolute majority of people who use public domain images, will not think it's worth it to donate for using that image. Images are usually a 1-time-use, so someone will usually just grab it and not even go back after they've copied it. Safe to say that they'll probably earn less than 50 dollars per month in donations. While they might have put a lot of time into editing the image, especially with illustrations and drawings. I'll definitely ask some of the artists on Pixabay how many donations they receive, if they would want to share that info. Nee ben er niet achter gekomen, ik wou er niet te veel tijd aan spenderen, om eerlijk te zijn :) Kon moeilijk enkele uren vrij maken om een bot te maken (de enige optie)
This is nice @daan. Wish you all the best in the publication of your magazine. More grease
I wish I could help on telling you how to withdraw SBD to Paypal.
That's nice thing that the artist replied, and that they will be joining steemit! A nice gesture which turns out to have an even greater impact. <3
It should be possible to convert sbd to paypal but i am yet to know how it can be done, i will make research on how it can be done and give you feed back if i get any reasonable result.
Wish I had a better idea of how to convert SBD to paypal...but I don't. Still, very intersting project. I wish you great success.
Very cool! How exciting that you have already gotten such a great response. I hope that I am able to help out with this or do something similar when my account is larger.
Thank you @daan for the upvote, really appreciated.
I would love to know as well how converting SBD to Paypal works.
