Mi sono imbattuto in diversi panorami splendidi durante la mia moto scorrazzata attraverso l’Asia; da catene montuose altissime con cime sempre innevate ad aride distese desertiche quasi prive di vita. Tra le viste che più mi sono rimaste impresse vi sono certamente quelle delle curatissime piantagioni di tè che incontrai procedendo verso est dalle Himalaya. Le coltivazioni di Darjeeling in India, quelle delle Cameron Highlands in Malesia e di Kerinci in Indonesia furono davvero spettacolari. Interessanti erano pure le figure iconiche delle raccoglitrici di tè in mezzo alle distese infinite di piantine verdi….sempre e solo donne.

I came across many amazing sights on my motorcycle trip across Asia, from beautiful mountain ranges to arid deserts almost devoid of life. However, among my fondest discoveries were the amazing tea plantations I rode through after crossing the Himalayas.
Beautifully manicured, the tea plantations of Darjeeling in India, those of the Cameron Highlands in Malaysia and Kerinci in Indonesia, were always an amazing sight to behold. So were the iconic lady pickers hard at work plucking the leaves within them.

Le prime coltivazioni di tè si effettuarono per scopi medicinali in Cina. Da li, nel diciassettesimo secolo il tè raggiunse il Regno Unito ove conobbe un successo tale che la bevanda, con l’aggiunta di un goccio di latte, è divenuta un simbolo della cultura inglese.
Il colonialismo britannico esportò il tè in India ed in Malesia. Quello olandese lo introdusse in Indonesia.
La China rimane tuttora il maggior produttore di tè al mondo con oltre un milione di tonnellate di raccolto all’anno. L’India è al secondo posto con poco meno di un milione di cui solo il 30% viene esportato all’estero.
Altri big della produzione di tè sono la Turchia, l’Iran e l’Argentina, tutti paesi consumatori con una tradizione propria in fatto di infusi.
Originally grown in China for medicinal purposes, tea was exported to the United Kingdom during the 17th century and, with just the addition of a drop of milk, has since become a strong symbol of British culture.
British colonial rule brought tea to India and Malaysia. The Dutch introduced it to Indonesia.
China still remains the biggest producer of tea in the world with over one million tonnes harvested every year which is equal to around one third of total world produce. India holds second place with just under one million tonnes only 30% of which is exported abroad.
Other major players in the tea business include Turkey, Iran and Argentina, all big tea drinking nations themselves.

Il tè Oolong è considerato il re di tutti i tè. Ricco di antiossidanti aiuta a sciogliere i trigliceridi e a mantenere un aspetto giovanile!
Il tè nero è tra le varietà più ricche di caffeina ma efficace contro il colesterolo ed utile nelle diete.
Il tè verde ed il tè bianco sono indicati per combattere il cancro e problemi cardiovascolari.
La camomilla (prodotto dai fiori della piante del tè), va bene per chi soffre di diabete.
There are several varieties of tea available. Most people have heard of Black tea, Green tea, White tea and Oolong tea. Apparently each variety has it’s own special medicinal properties.
Oolong tea is considered the king of all teas. Rich in antioxidants it helps disolve fatty triglycerides in our blood stream and seemingly preserves a person’s youthful features!
Black tea is the most caffeinated variety of tea but good for fighting cholesterol, for diets and keeping our bodies trim.
Green tea and White tea are said to be excellent for preventing cancer and heart disease.
Chamomile (which is produced from the flowers of the tea plant) helps against diabetes.

Mi ricordo che le raccoglitrici di tè lavorarono sodo, in silenzio sotto al sole ed al caldo. Sulla schiena portarono ceste oppure borse enormi da riempire ripetutamente. Avevano poco tempo da dedicarmi mentre le osservai dalla sella della mia moto, con macchina fotografica in mano.
Bevo del tè verde ogni tanto ma…..da buon italiano penso che un cappuccino tiepido sia difficile da battere!
The lady tea leaf pluckers I encountered in the plantations all worked hard, silently under the sun and in the heat with huge baskets or bags on their backs to fill up repetitively. They generally had little time or sympathy for me and my camera when I stopped near by on my bike to admire.
I drink Green tea once in a while when I can…….but being an Italian I think a well made cappuccino is hard to beat!

I'm sure he will. There are many outstanding sights in Malaysia. Th highlands are just one of them.

Darjeeling was wonderful. Nature really starts to change from forest to jungle. I wish I could have stayed longer. The tea was really good as well 😀

Fantastico! Che paesaggi meravigliosi, però si, si vede che lavorano sodo! Basta guardare i volti vissuti, questi non stanno a poltrire sul divano, poco ma sicuro. Bellissmo post!
Grazie @stea90. Si muovevano veloci. Le mani erano rapide sulle piantine. Gli occhi sempre in cerca di foglie mature. Credo che la paga fosse in base al peso di quanto riuscissero a raccogliere....cottimo.
Probabile, non sarebbe male neanche in Italia in certi casi pagare a cottimo. Ho lavorato come operaio in diverse industrie, c'erano di quelle differenze tra i vari operai, c'era sempre quello che lavorava per 2 e il furbo di turno che si grattava, li il cottimo ci starebbe bene.
