Interesting Places in Austria – Almsee
The „Almsee“ is a lake in Upper Austria with a very nice water quality and very clear water. It is located near the border to Styria. The Lake is not very deep but the water is still very cold because the small river “Alm” is directly flowing through the Almsee and keeps it cold. But in hot summer days it is a very welcome cold lake when you are hiking in this region.
Swimming is not allowed everywhere only on special bathing places around the lake to protect the nature. I already visited this place in summer and winter. In summer last year I was bathing with my former girlfriend and her children there. In Winter I took some nice pictures with a friend there. The Almsee is the origin of the “Alm” a small river flowing into the Traun and afterwards into the Danube.

Winter
If you visit the Almsee in winter it is possible that the lake is frozen. Because it is very beautiful and nice you will find a lot of people curling on the Ice when the lake is frozen. In winter you’ll encounter a very early sunset behind the mountains because they are shading the sun already in the middle of the afternoon. But the whole scene is very beautiful in the winter, snow on the mountains, the trees and even on the small cottages around the lake.
Animals
You’ll find a lot of ducks and swans on the Almsee. But there are also a lot of fish and the Beaver living there.
