Opera della Metropolitana di Siena - Cathedral's apse

Despite the name, it is not a theatre, but an amazing art museum in Siena, located in the right nave of the Duomo di Siena. This building was constructed in order to enlarge the cathedral, but construction was interrupted following the outbreak of the plague that devastated the city in 1348 (source).

The Museum was established to preserve and display artworks coming from the Cathedral that were removed for various reasons from their original location.
The exhibition begins on the ground floor, with a collection of 14th-century marble statues coming from the façade that depict sibyls, prophets, and philosophers of Antiquity, sculpted by Giovanni Pisano.

At the end of the Statue Gallery is the majestic window executed by Duccio di Buoninsegna between 1287 and 1290 for the cathedral’s apse.

The first picture is nice but it was taken with hands. The entire scene is not illuminated enough for that. But as it often happens in museums in Italy, you are not allowed to use a tripod (or likely) without special permission. Well, I don't give up so easily. So I looked around what I have and constructed a kind of pedestal on a fence for my camera. And the next shot is much more sharp and clear but ...

... a part of stone fence is the price. My hand made "high ground" wasn't high enough.

The last one (close up) is also taken with hands. It is a colored version of black and white editing I posted before.

This window was the brightest thing I photographed on that cloudy winter day 2 years ago.
