The teachings of the storm, the lessons of the rainbow, the company of coyotes.

It takes a storm to make a rainbow.

This was after one of those jaw-dropping storms that fill you with the majesty of nature.

My home town... Mill Valley, California.
(Across the bridge from San Francisco, at the edge of the Golden Gate Nat'l Recreation Area.)

In winter we're sometimes lucky enough to get a decent storm or two.
And sometimes those storms bring rainbows.

My personal take on rainbows is that they are harbingers of change.

Native American stories and prophecies are full of them.

The Cherokee believe the rainbow forms the hem of the sun's coat.

The Matachewan call the rainbow Ani'miki'unujea'bi, "thunder's legging string."

A Cooper's Hawk... another Native American talisman.

The Cree tribe prophesied that after the white man came and destroyed the environment, the world as they knew it would cease to exist. But there would eventually come a time when "keepers of the ancient customs" would arrive to restore the world to health.
These people, mankind's key to survival, were the "Warriors of the Rainbow."

After this storm fully cleared, two coyotes walked beside me in the sun.

Most Native American tribes see the coyote as a shape-shifter, a trickster, a transformer.
Experiencing so much fast-changing weather phenomenon in that beautiful place...
the metaphor wasn't lost on me.

Change is always coming...
...many prayers for us to handle it with the grace of a rainbow and the humor of the trickster.

Thanks for watching.

Nice rainbow, but coyotes are interesting too. And we have jackals here, in Haifa. I will try to picture them too. But the move about the city only at night)

@borishaifa Whoa, jackals. Although they are smaller than coyotes, I hear that they are more fierce. BTW, coyotes are sometimes called "American Jackals." Have you ever been scared by a jackal? (I've had a few coyotes growl at me on the trail sometimes.)

Stunning photos! Following you now!

@daveks Thanks and there's more to come!
