Does progress of one always point at destruction for another?

“It is true that European contact with native people of the Americas, whether indirect (as with the transformation of disease or the acquisition of trade items) or direct, was traumatic for most indigenous peoples. In many cases this trauma led to cultural disintegrations and loss of knowledge and cultural specializations and marginalization of whole populations.”

I'm not saying the pursuit of knowledge and understanding of the Western man should stop. In the end we have an evolution do partake in just like anyone else. I am saying we should at least be aware of the destruction we have brought upon many small civilizations trying to just live and let live, minding their own business. I am saying that while celebrating the success of the modern man we shouldn't forget the greif of the ones who were destroyed.
