Conocida por su nombre quechua kaywa, se le cultiva para ser usado maduro como vegetal, en ensaladas y otros tantos platillos de la gastronomía peruana.

    Por estas latitudes conocemos dos tipos de caigua, uno es hueco y semillas negras como el de mi publicación y hay otra variedad que es compacto muy carnoso y mucho mas pesado llamada caigua chilena.
