Vran. Bulgaria

in #photography6 years ago (edited)

This is the name of the royal residence near Sofia. In Sofia itself there was also the royal palace, but there is now an art gallery, but in Vran there sometimes lives Tsar Simeon II. His daughter Princess Kalina lives in another residence - in Tsarskoy Bystrica, which is located in the ski resort of Borovets. Also near Sofia.

But Vrana itself is located in a very large and beautiful park only nine kilometers from the center of Sofia, if you go from the city along the Tsarigradskoye highway.

This palace was built in 1912 by Simeon's grandfather Tsar Ferdinand I. Ferdinand occupied three million gold francs from Nicholas II, the Russian tsar, to build it.

The park in which the residence stands occupies 140 hectares. In 2001, Simeon gave the park to the Sofia community, and in 2013 it was opened for visits. Now the Sophians go there to walk. The park is very beautiful and in fact is an arboretum. Until 1912 there was a clean field - all these beautiful trees were planted on the orders of Ferdinand. Four hundred species of various plants grow in the park of Vran. It is said that Ferdinand bought this territory from his pharmacist for 56,000 gold leva.

This memorable plate lies in the place exploded by the Communists, the paraklis of Tsar Boris III.

And this is the cemetery of the royal dogs, one of whom lived for 22 years.

In the park you can walk from ten to four days, entrance fee, but inexpensive.

Vrana translates as a crow. There are rumors that Ferdinand called his palace so: what first bird will sit on a new building and call it.

A local inhabitant.

Former stables and a garage.

Mail house.

Aerial roots.

The palace complex itself was built by the architect Nikola Lazarov.
