Hammock Backcountry Camping and Morning Pano Photos 📷

in #photography7 years ago

A few weeks ago, I was able to hike out into the backcountry and make camp as it got dark for a weekend in the wilderness. Of course, I had my hammock for shelter and was fairly light hiking in with just a 29 lbs pack, including food and water. Its a spot I've been before on day hikes, but I've always wanted to come camp in here, its so peaceful and situated in the large bowl under the Holy Cross Mountain mastiff around on 3 sides. EPIC!

Was nice and secluded, NO other people or hikers in this area much, so we (I was with 2 buddies) knew it'd be a great quite camp area and weekend! It was!

I loved this hammock spot, as it was open enough I could pull back my fly and just stare up at the mountain wall all around and the stars. VERY NICE!

Panoramas

The next morning, we were able to get some exploring and hiking in before some thick cloud and fog set in blocking much of our views. However, here are a few of the panoarams in the area.

Morning light was hard to capture, as this was still fairly dark outside as the sun was rising back from the area we hiked in the night before, largely in the dark.

Some of the awesome peaks on this mastiff, we'll be heading up later in the day to summit and explore them!

This is the main Holy Cross mastiff, its hard to tell the summit from this angle, since it actually up behind this extended rock wall on the right.

I liked how the morning sun rays were just hitting a few rock bands on the approach. This i the slow and grassy approach we'll take later on to summit, ideally hitting the ridge at center of photo just above the huge rock band. The rest of the hike is a long ridge and scramble.

Just a few rays poking through the rolling in clouds.

You get an idea of the rugged rocks and approaches in this area, they are awesome, but much more difficult in most areas than I would dare approach without climbing gear. Some big slopes and peaks around though, should make for some great hiking up on the mountain.

Thanks steemclaira, yes I have shared MANY, MANY already in my blog and will share many more to come, for sure!

Nice please send some more. BTW any chance of running into Bears?

Thanks bssman. With enough time in the woods, yes, you will definitely run into bears. Its not a if, but a when. Keep you food away from where you sleep and be heard so you don't ever scare a bear, and they are not otherwise a problem. I've had some close encounters, but they were awesome to experience, although scary for sure!

@unipsycho,
