As you comment, the rodents are eating the planting. You will have to take this situation into consideration for your future plantings.
I do not use poisons for the rodents but I have some plans for them. In my orchard they destroy the root system of some of my fruit trees. I should have more time this summer so I am hoping to make it a high priority. One of my dogs will dig them up, and I am hoping she will teach my youngest one to do the same.
