Learning Light Tube Photography
While looking for new styles of light painting, I came across light tube photography. On Friday I went to home depot and picked up a fluorescent light protector (basically a 4 foot long plastic tube), tapped a flashlight to the bottom of it and started to try it out.
It completely failed! I was using a 300 lumens flashlight that was no where near strong enough. So Saturday morning I went and picked up a 1000 lumens flashlight. Tapped that to one side of the tube and the 300 lumens one on the other. Then took my daughter out to give it another shot.
As you can see it was almost working but was still not giving a solid light through the tube. So we started to brainstorm and my daughter got the idea of using construction paper (wrapped around the tube) to add color. So we grabbed some of that and started to add that on. But unfortunately she had had her fill of having photos done lol.
So I had to wait until last night to try it again with Mike (insta: mikeheinhold). As soon as we hit a dark trail and started trying it was clear that it was working like a charm!
After taking that shot and the one at the top of the post, we decided to have a little fun and add in other light sources. See what kind of creations we could come up with.
There are some improvements to be made to both the tube itself and the shooting of the photo's, so I will be out playing with this a lot more! Let me know what you think and if you see any ways to improve this style!
This one is nice. :)
Thanks!
