Flashing Macro
I don't often do pure photography posts these days but tonight I tried to take a few of some maple tree seeds my daughter and I picked up during the day. These were taken with a flash (obviously) in near darkness. I would have liked to have played a little more to get the settings right but after the flash fired a few times I got told off by my wife for waking her up with the light.
I don't get out nearly as much as I should with the camera so I am going to try and see what I can do with some macro shots inside. These were all taken with a 40-150 lens on an Olympus EM-1, a mirrorless camera and are yet to be edited. The photos I post at Steemfest are going to have to go unedited too since my laptop can't handle any decent software.
I don't have a macro lens so I use some cheap extension tubes I got from eBay for about 25€ a few years ago. There are cheaper ones but these have the pins so I am still able me to auto-focus, which I prefer to use sometimes, especially when it is so dark.
Well, here are the photos I transferred over.
I like how such simple things we take for granted are actually incredibly complex structures once up close and personal. The design in nature is incredible and I love how life fractals and repeats across levels. The veins in the seeds look are a micro version of the tree it fell from and also are much like our own system. Obviously, the closer we get to something the context of it becomes lost and undefined to the point where it no longer makes sense to the understanding.
Sometimes it is good to get a little distance and maybe some greater perspective on what we are viewing to make sure we still understand what the point of it all is.

THIS is why I absolutely adore macro photography. We walk by entire miniature civilizations with every single step. Macro photography represents the possibility and majesty hidden in plain view in our universe!
There is no imagination on earth that can out perform 'designed by nature'.
This is really cool. I have this weird obsession with photographing mundane objects closeup with my Canon 7D with my 80mm and 50mm lenses. It's amazing the little details in things that we look at every single day but don't notice.
I don't have the macro tubes, or macro lenses but I did purchase this funny little adapter that allows you to attach the lens in reverse. I don't know the science, but this essentially turns the lens into a macro lens. I have managed to get some really cool shots with it in the past, but it's tricky.
I haven't tried with that kind of adapter but the tubes a re a bit easier I think but give a different feel again. Worth the 'investment' I think as even though they aren't the most brilliant, they are a lot of fun and much much cheaper than a macro.
These are different to the ones I have but for a tenner, the risk is low.

Oh nice. I will have to give those a try. For that price it is worth a go.
yeah definitely. because they move the lens away from the sensor they don't pull in as much light but with a flash, sun long exp. they are decent enough.
Oh, make sure you buy the right set for a canon, that was a quick check. I run an olympus these days.

What good photos. Those seeds are similar to a seed of the Apamate tree. A tree of Venezuela that its flower is purple.
For me, your photography always have seemed very good. also you know choose well according to what you type ... I think your photography equipment is good ..
