Lanzones - Bitter Sweet Delight

in #photography8 years ago (edited)

Hello Steemians! Lanzones, the exotic fruit. This is one of my favorite fruits as well. When we went to visit my country last year we ate lanzones every single day. We were on time because it was the Lanzones season. The harvest season in the Philippines is 4 months from July up to October.

The Lanzones tree grows in Southeast Asia. It is very popular in the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand. Lanzones tree can grow up to 30 meter tall, the trunk up to 75 cm diameter. The branches grow in irregular manner. The bark has greyish color with dark spots and with a very dark green leaves.

The fruit is edible it can be round or ovoid in shape, just like a small potato.

When is the right time to eat lanzones?
When it's yellow then it's ready. Eat it fresh by squeezing until the skin splits or peel it.

How does it taste? Sweet..mmmmm Just sweet..a little bit bitter.
Health benefits: vitamins, minerals, antibacterial, antioxidant and more.

Lanzones or Langsat
Scientific name: Lansium domesticum
Family: Mahogany tree

This is my Uncle Puro's lanzones tree in the village.
