"Balimbing" - The Star Fruit
"Balimbing" Carambola or Star Fruit. We call this fruit "Balimbing" in tagalog.
This fruit is very popular in South East Asia. They also grow this in South America, Australia, Hawaii and Florida. Star fruit is a tropical and subtropical fruit.
Star fruit is antioxidant and rich in vitamin C, it helps to fight colds, flu and other infections.
The star fruit is ready to eat when it turns yellow. It turns brown when it too ripe.
The skin of Star fruit is very thin like grapes. You can eat the skin the seeds and everything. You can also try it when it's green, but it's very sour.
If you cut the star fruit, you will see the 5 angled form like a star. I don't usually cut it. I bite it side by side :):)
Star fruit is crunchy, firm and sweet when it's ripe.
This was my childhood fruit. This was my daily snack. We got plenty of "Balimbing" tree in our village.
Have you ever tried star fruit before? What was your childhood fruit?
My nephew climbing the tree. (See image below, green and yellow star fruit)
