Editing a photosteemCreated with Sketch.

Here's a failed photo which I tried to recover. (Note to myself: never go out taking pictures with someone who leaves the car running with all the lights on and drives by all the good spots)

The original image was going straight to the trash bin, but before that I decided to play with it.

As you can see it looks like rubbish. Ugly reds from the car, a boring lighting and out of focus.

After Lightroom:

After Photoshop:

It's actually quite easy to do. Simply kill the reds, start balancing the lights with adjustment curves and add some color.

wow, great recovery! STEEM ON!

Very nice recovery! Couldn't that all be done in Lightroom? Or was there something that required Photoshop that wasn't possible in Lightroom?

I used precise (using "apply image") masks to target lights and blacks separately. I also used custom sharpening techniques and coloring. Lightroom(basically only the Camera Raw tool which is also available in PS) only gives you a brush to work with. Photoshop gives you all the freedom in the world :)

I use Lightroom for fast and light edits. For the heavy lifting Photoshop comes into play.

Yes the masks and layers in Photoshop are very versatile and you can isolate very small parts easily. Thanks for the tip.

As usual you do wonder to a photo which many people would have given up.

You did a great job in editing that image. But I connected with the first image a lot. I've been winter camping covering long distances. That first photo is what it looks like sometimes at the end of a hard day to get somewhere. There's a rush to find a good campsite and set up before the light fades so fast on those short winter days. I wouldn't want to be at that spot right there, at the end of the day, lol.
