Road Trip in Europe Part III : Pula Croatia

A quick stop at Pula before going to Plitvice National Park !

The history of the city of Pula is almost 3000 years old. A local legend places the myth of the Argonauts in search of the Golden Fleece, not in the Black Sea, but in the Adriatic Sea, which makes them the founders of Polis, the future Pula. In fact, there was a Greek settlement in the neighborhood, on the island of Cres (Chersos in Greek) where they founded the colony of Apsoris.

One of the most important buildings of the city is the Roman amphitheater of Pula, arena in Latin.

La historia de la ciudad de Pula tiene casi 3000 años de antigüedad. Una leyenda local coloca el mito de los Argonautas en busca del Toisón de Oro, no en el Mar Negro, sino en el Mar Adriático, lo que los convierte en los fundadores de Polis, la futura Pula. De hecho, había un asentamiento griego en el barrio, en la isla de Cres (Chersos en griego) donde fundaron la colonia de Apsoris.

Uno de los edificios más importantes de la ciudad es el anfiteatro romano de Pula, arena en latín.

Also in the ancient Roman city of Pola is a Temple of Augustus, the former Forum Capitol, a triumphal arch, a ruined enclosure wall and the remains of two ancient theaters.

También en la antigua ciudad romana de Pola se encuentra el Templo de Augusto, el antiguo Foro Capitolio, un arco triunfal, una muralla en ruinas y los restos de dos antiguos teatros.

After World War II, in May 1945, the city was taken over by the Yugoslav troops, and in 1954 was integrated into Yugoslavia (as "Pula") as was the rest of the Istrian Peninsula since 1947.

Después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, en mayo de 1945, la ciudad fue tomada por las tropas yugoslavas, y en 1954 se integró en Yugoslavia (como "Pula") al igual que el resto de la Península de Istria desde 1947.
