Tour of Munich - Altstadt - Pt 2 of 2
Here are some more views of the city from the top of Alter Peter.
Its a shame its a bit cloudy and you can't see the mountains, but nonetheless, its an impressive of view of the rooftops and streets. Below you can see the famous dual towers of the Frauenkirche and the gothic Neues Rathaus.
The square with green roofs is the Viktualienmarkt, where I dined on sausage, brezl and radler.
A couple of churches (i'm not sure which, Munich has so many!)
Back on the ground I set off around the smaller streets that wind behind Marienplatz and Odeonsplatz. Not so full of tourists and lots of nice bars and restaurants.
Sooner or later I got to the Hofbrauhaus - one of the best places to drink in Munich.
The beer is (in my opinion at least!) the best of the Munich breweries, and there is a great atmosphere here, with a live oompah band to ease the beer down.
A short walk away is the Hofgarten, located between the Residenz Palace and the Englisher Garten (which is the largest park in Germany).
You can also see the Bavarian Chancellery, where all the big financial decisions affecting Bavaria are made.
Another nice park is the Alter Botanischer Garten.
Near Hauptbahnhof it is busy, noisy and dirty (by Munich standards anyway), but there are still plenty of nice buildings to look at.
You could easily spend a day wandering around the Old Town of Munich, particularly if you plan to spend a bit of time at each of the sites of interests and hit a couple of museums, but this tour only took about 3 hours.
Tolle Bilder!
