Tour of Munich - Altstadt - Pt 1 of 2
I started my tour of the Old Town at Sendlinger Tor, a defensive city gate dating from the early 1300s.
I then set off down Sendlinger Strasse.
Its now full of big name brands, and not that interesting, but i'll add some of the more interesting architectural details in another post.
The striking baroque masterpiece - Asam Kirche - is worth a quick visit.
This building on the corner of Sendlingerstr.-Hackenstr. has some interesting stucco reliefs.
Once you make it to Marienplatz you are greeted with the imposing Neues Rathaus (New Town Hall).
It was completed in 1874 and is the seat of the mayor’s office, the city council, and the city administration.
2 minutes away is one of the best markets in Munich - the Viktualienmarkt - where you can find lots of fantastic places to eat and drink and soak up the relaxed atmosphere.
It used to be a farmer's market, but has now has 140 stalls that offer flowers, exotic fruit, game, poultry, spices, cheese, fish, juices, etc.
Viktaulianmarkt is a great place to stop for lunch. Some of the best sausage in Munich - Teltschick's Wurst Stand.
Stockwurst with Brezl and Radler - delicious!
Next a quick stop at Alter Peter - the oldest church in the city, dating from the 11th century.
If you've got the energy and aren't afraid of heights then you can take 299 steps to see the view from the top of the tower.
Alles dabei #Munich #Beer #Wurst
Vielen Dank! You cant beat the sausage and beer combination!
