Nice photos. We have lots of it (Callistemon) in South Florida too and it came from Australia. It was heavily used as a landscaping tree years ago, so there are lots of old specimens and I'm quite sure it has naturalized here too. Nowadays the birds may plant it more than people do.
I'm sure there are many varieties of Bottle Brush and all are known for their colorful red flowers. The leaves have lots of essential oils as with eucalyptus and they are very fragrant when crushed in your hands. Birds, including hummingbirds and bees work them like mad when in full bloom. Very tropical, they are for zones 9 to 11.
Thanks for your response, I heard, I think it was Florida that they introduced the Australian paper bark tree. The thing grew crazy and took over, they were like 2 time the size they grow here. That was a while ago I think they started to use biological controls. Cheers
Oh yes, known as Malaleuca in the news it had colonized hundreds or thousands of acres in the Florida Everglades. Ecologists finally fought an all-out war on them and they seem to be under control.
It's really quite a pretty tree (when you see just one or two specimens) they have many uses like the essential oils in the leaves (tea tree oil) and were originally planted to "drain the swamp." But they loved the climate and took over!
Very interesting photos. I hope you post more Australia pics! Thanks
Thanks, I have some photo's of the Australian outback I will be posting soon. Cheers
