HANDforLUCK - Original photography by Shlomit Schatzmayr
I created these two photos for HANDforLUCK back in 2015, as a part of the "Artists for HANDforLUCK" charity campaign.
HANDforLUCK was a special line of diamond necklaces, sold to raise donations for the Desert Flower Foundation, fighting FGM (female genital mutilation).
If you haven't yet, I highly recommend reading Waris Dirie's book "Desert Flower", describing her incredible life, born in the Somali desert, later turned to an international super model. Her own mutilation process described in the book, is probably the most shocking and disturbing things I've ever read and yet I recommend this read to everyone. It is important for all of us to educate ourselves about this topic and try to understand the suffering these girls go through, still to this very day and all over the world.

I didn't read the book but I watched the movie.... a stark reality that directly attacks women... anyway very interesting images
Thank you very much <3
The movie, based on the book, was extremely hard for watching in that part as well. The little Somali girl who played the young Waris in the movie, was sponsored to go to school and be educated via the Desert lower Foundation and they made sure that she will not be mutilated herself.
Such beautiful photos for a very important cause. Genital mutilation of women is cruel and terrible, and should be stopped. Selling diamond necklaces to raise money for that charity is a wonderful idea, really.
Love the photos and the post. Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome to follow back if you like my posts. Hope to see you around :-)
It is indeed a cruel and horrible act! And yes, should be stopped.
The fact that it still exists, still happening and pretty much everywhere in the world, is frightning :(
Thank you for your kind words and support <3
Awesome - I love it!
