Playing With The Camera: Ant This Is Life
Do you remember my ant photostory, Dur dur d'etre fourmi? Well, for today I got you a few more shots all taken in my garden some weeks ago.
On a quiet evening in @ruth-girl's garden...
a big black ant was walking on a rose...
He took a few sniffs and...
Off down he went...
A few meters farther another ant was lost...
"Perhaps I should go down this way..."
"Hey guys! 've you seen my friends?"
"Sorry, mate! We cannot say, weren't watching where they went."
And right there, on another stump, a hairy tussy ant was curious to explore...
"Nope! This hole looks just too dark, I think I'm going home."
Oh! We have some rocks around the flower bed, let's go see what we'll find...
Heeey! That's just a whole colony!
"Yes, Miss! What are you? Blind?"
Those little eggs look fragile...
those larvae, white as ghosts.
"We'll hunt you down and swarm your house...
...unless you let us pose."
And what is that?
A poor old snail...
that got turned on its back.
"The world pays no attention, bud...
when you are on their path"
The ants are so protective,
they try to hide their youngs.
The colony is threatened...
its future's in their hands.
The little eggs will grow and hatch,
new workers will emerge.
Through day and night,
with sun and rain,
into the fields they'll surge.
And some of them will bring back food,
while others will become...
a hungry spider's scrumptious lunch...
'cause, hey...
this is just life!
And just like in the animal world, the same applies in our world, the human(?) one...
Some work, some build, some create and others just...
Prey!

Yeah, the one with the eggs and larvae is great as well! It's really cool to see how the made a nursery under a rock(?).
It's a rock, yes. And what surprised me was that they laid all those eggs there instead of burrying them safely in a nest. Once I picked the rock up, they panicked and started taking the eggs away; after 2-3 minutes I had taken enough shots and I put the rock back. I felt sorry for scaring them :(
It seems pretty risky for them to have so many eggs and larvae above the nest. I wonder what the benefit of this is, because I can only think of potential downsides right now.
The only explanation that would make (?) sense is that they might wanted to relocate and had to leave the eggs somewhere temporarily...
Yeah, perhaps. I don't know enough about ants to know if this is even a realistic scenario.

...ναι φυσικα,μεχρι τη στιγμη ομως που αποφασισαν να κανουν φωλια μεσα στους γιουνιπερους μου...γιατι οταν ειδα να μου εχουν κανει καταληψη τη γλαστρουλα με επιασαν οι διαολοι....
....πηγα εφοδιαστηκα με εντομοκτονο για μυρμηγκια...εκανα κοκτειλ...και τα ποτισα....η συνεχεια φανταζομαι κατανοητη απο ολους.... εκατομβες θυματων...λυπαμαι αλλα ενοχλησαν τους γιουνιπερους μου...
Εσενα τους γιουνιπερους εμας πηγαν να μας φανε... δις!! Μια φορα ειχαμε την καθοδο των μυρμηγκεων απο ενα ανοιχτο παραθυρο σε βραδυ με βροχη κι αλλη μια που μας εκαναν ντου απο το πατωμα του σαλονιου (ειχανε φαει το σανιδι). Σε τετοιες περιπτωσεις υπερασπιζομαστε το χωρο μας!!

That specie of snail is very different from the one we have down here.
The ants are so amazing creatures; they practice division of labour like termites. Some gather food, some fight off enemies, and things like that.
Generally, they are all beautiful shots!
