Gray Days -- Day Dreams

Today it's cold, wet, and gray in Bavaria, and as I started on my music post, images of Amsterdam popped into my mind.

Heute ist es kalt, nass und grau in Bayern, und als ich über Musik schreiben wollte, kamen mir plötzlich Bilder von Amsterdam in den Sinn.

Actually I'm more drawn to the country and small town living, but I must admit, were I suddenly incredibly wealthy my dream would be to have townhouses in Amsterdam and Venice, and a cozy cottage on a small lake somewhere in the Alps.

Amsterdam feels like a home away from home for me. I love the architecture, the quaint neighborhoods, the lack of skyscrapers, and the openness of the Dutch people -- as this photo demonstrates. Notice the bike under the table

Eigentlich bin ich mehr vom Landleben angezogen, aber ich muss zugeben, wäre ich plötzlich unglaublich wohlhabend, wäre mein Traum Stadthäuser in Amsterdam und Venedig und ein gemütliches Ferienhaus an einem kleinen See irgendwo in den Alpen.

Amsterdam fühlt sich für mich wie ein zweites Zuhause an. Ich liebe die Architektur, die malerischen Viertel, die fehlenden Wolkenkratzer und die Offenheit der Holländer - wie dieses Foto oben zeigt. One of my early post was "What's Up with Dutch Bikes?" But I haven't exhausted my supply of photos of Dutch bikes. As a matter of fact, one of the hardest shots to get in Amsterdam is a street scene without a bike in it. If you look closely on this post, you'll notice a bike in every photo with a single exception.
Einer meiner früheren Posts war "Was hat es mit den niederländischen Bikes auf sich?" Mein Vorrat an Fotos von niederländischen Bikes ist noch nicht erschöpft. I never tire of photographing the masses of bikes parked around the central train station, and trying to imagine how they find their bikes again!Ich werde nie müde, die Massen von Fahrrädern zu fotografieren, die um den Hauptbahnhof herum stehen, und mir vorzustellen, wie die Leute ihre Räder wiederfinden!

I shared a photo of this great little car before, but it is also interesting from the back, notice this free spirit has an antique styled mirror instead of a rear window! Also, look closely, there is a bike in the photo. Ich zeigte schon ein Foto von diesem tollen Auto, aber es ist auch von hinten interessant. Dieser Spaßvogel hat einen Antikstilspiegel anstelle einer Heckscheibe. Schau genau hin, es gibt ein Fahrrad auf dem Foto.

I love the sloping curve of the streets around the canals. Ich liebe die schrägen Kurven der Straßen rund um die Kanäle. Sogar wenn das Wetter dort mies ist, gibt es unzählige gemütliche Restaurants und Cafés wo man sich verkriechen kann.
Even if the weather is lousy, there are countless cozy restaurants and cafes where you can escape into a dreamy little space.
