April Flowers
Springtime is special in the Alps because of something called the “lapse rate.”
If you are a climber you might have heard of this. It is simply the relationship of temperature and elevation. On average you can expect the temperature to drop 6.5 degrees C for every thousand meters of elevation, or 3.5 degrees F for every 1000 feet. Learn more
Thus in the Alps the mountains seem to be in a different season, especially in April and May. Soon the valleys here will be vibrantly green with fresh growth, the meadows will be green and yellow from daffodils, and the fruits tress will be pink and white. The sky will be deep blue and the mountain tops will still be snow capped – it is a particularly beautiful time.
This year the springtime has been slow in coming, but in my previous post I mentioned the fantastic flowers of the cemeteries of the Bavarian alpine community of Ruhpolding and I want to share just a few examples with you today. I could have made hundreds of photos, the people of Ruhpolding are quite amazing – what a beautiful spot.

wow @roused! I love those shots! What did you do with the lighting?
Thanks @themanualbot ! My Nikon generally over exposes in the automatic mode, so I'm compelled to edit. One of the first things I do is to up the "fill lighting" and contrast, and then decrease the overall brightness. I particularly like the HDR effect, but it messes with the outline of tress etc., so it depends on the photo.
But in terms of lighting, that is my basic approach.
