Jäävaara

This is a "mountain"-area close to Näätämö, the Norwegian border in north-eastern Finland. I guess the proper term for Jäävaara is that it's a forested hill. Jäävaara translates to "Ice-forested hill" which is quite clumsy translation. A better one would be "Icefell".

It was already evening when we decided to head out to Jäävaara, and the lighting got dimmer and dimmer. We did manage to get some epic shots though. The skies were amazing! There was absolutely no wind and we had just experienced some showers of rain earlier, after which the high-altitude winds had pushed the clouds aside.

This is a glimpse of the true beauty of the endless and cruel-some wildernesses we have here in Finland.

Spot the moose?

I guess you gotta look at the full size image to have a chance of finding it.
Our dog spotted it before us and started chasing it. He ran for I don't know how far... maybe even a kilometer. But as he is not a hunting dog, we trusted that he'd return; as he did.

Hint: the moose is in the middle; swimming in the lake. It had just started its escape after our dog started running!

There he is, Tahvo "Tuhvelo" "Tohve" the Lapphund.

My wife found her first reindeer horn. Graceful ain't it?

Actually our dog found the first one on our trip, but we didn't take a picture of it. This was the second, and last one found.
I've got plenty of horns and skulls collected and stored around our home. Beautiful trophies they are. You can only fully appreciate them, when you actually find one.

Our dog also found this fox face. Nice teeth aye?

And at last, just a simple mushroom picture. Must be some kind of amanita subspecies. I'm not completely sure whether it is a panther or brown amanita.
