Weirdly Unfinished Buddhist Statues

Xiushan Temple 修缮寺 is perhaps one of the weirdest temples I have seen in China. The unfinished clay statues look unearthly and surreal. I posted some pics about it the other day. The other statues in the place were pieced together with carved wood. Normally, these would be either painted or plated in gold. However, these are still have the wood grains and knots. I still haven't seen anything like this else where. Here are some pics....
