My Tiny Planets #11: Walking to Newgrange, Ireland

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

This foot path to the Newgrange visitor centre isn't that impressive by itself, not compared to the monument. But the lines and materials made it perfect for my tiny planet shot.

But do go to Newgrange if you have the chance. It is a prehistoric monument build earlier than Stonehenge & the pyramids. Every year there is a special lottery to win entry to the monument during the winter solstice. The lucky winners will stand inside to witness the illumination that happens when the sunlight from the sunrise shoots down the corridor. This moment lasts for 17 minutes and only on a few days before and after the winter solstice, which makes it pretty special. And only 120 persons per year will have this experience!
However, even without the sunlight, it is pretty impressive. I'd recommend to book an organised tour to visit though, otherwise there is a big chance you will queue for a very long time.
