What Kind of Flower Is This, A Wednesday Walk in Vancouver @tattoodjay

What Kind of Flower is This

Vancouver is famous for its liquid sunshine. No one does drenched and/or drizzled like we do drenched and/or drizzled. Rain, rain, rain, all the time. Especially, in the summer. Yep, you don't want to come here in the summer. Stay Away. You definitely wouldn't want to come downtown and eat at one of our many and varied restaurants ... I mean who likes that much choice and spice.

And then you definitely don't want to take a stroll and walk really, really slowly down Denman Street; I mean you could get a cramp and drown in a puddle. True, there is a good chance a Canadian will save you, but then you'll have to say sorry and thank-you. And chances are, they'll say you're welcome. I mean ... Awkward.

(I sang that last word. Yeah, I'm multi-talented.)

But if you do lean to the masochistic and you want to see where Shades of Gray was really filmed. Seattle Pfft. Then come on up. I'll alert the life guards and polite police. But might I suggest instead of doing your best impression of an upturned turtle on the sidewalk that you leave the safe confines of civilization and stroll through Stanley Park instead. Here is one of its many entrances, all laid out for your convenience.

But watch out for the Goslings. It takes a full year of tender care and a diet consisting solely of daisies, coffee grounds, and cigarette butts before they turn into Ryans. Hollywood has us in a huge back-order situation. You think Tesla has its production problems.

Don't get too close. Their minders go for the throat.

Most likely, as a naive tourist, you'll be led down the garden path. Careful you don't get a hummingbird in the eye.

Check out our exotic flora. I am not sure what kind of flower this is.

Here is a close-up. If you know the name of this flower, leave it in the comments.

So that was five-minutes of a Wednesday Walk. You can join in on the fun with @tattoodjay. I'll leave you with one last shot.

I think this guy was trying to tell me something.

Yep. It was Wednesday and I went for walk. I am both alliterative and sporty that way.

...

All photos and words are my own.

Sort:

I love rain, and Deb and I would be happiest in a fall-like climate - sweater weather. I love Vancouver a lot less, and would prefer Squamish and Whistler, but that's me - I don't want to sit in traffic for a couple of hours waiting to cross a bridge, lol On the plus side, Gas Town is interesting and the haunted washroom in the Old Spaghetti Factory, not that washrooms are glamorous - just that one :)

Thank you, John. If I drove I am sure I would feel the same way. I walk just about everywhere and for that reason Vancouver is perfect for me. But it is in the summer that some sidewalks get too crowded and one must leave the busier through fares if she wants to get anywhere quick. I am not that big on rain but I prefer it to snow, but both can be nice in small doses:) I do not know the haunted bathroom. I suspect the pipes:) Sweater weather is wonderful:)

That sky looks mighty clear and blue! Too big to be a sucker hole, lol. I would prefer every day mostly cloudy. Sweater weather is better weather! To me, your bright orange bush looks like an azalea of one variety or another. They are beautiful this time of year! Happy walking -- even if it's not Wednesday! ; )

Thank you, HH. Yes the Stanley Park Rhododendron garden is great this time of year ... but don't eat anything there:)
