Kishinev. City Hall
In the center of Chisinau there is a beautiful, as it seemed to me, a freshly restored building of the city mayor's office. This house was conceived at the end of the XIX century, when the then mayor decided to build a city duma on the site of the old fire station. Designed by local architect Mitrofan Elladi with the help of a visiting specialist, Alexander Bernardazzi.
When decorating the facade of the building, an allusion to Italian Gothic with elements of Masonic symbols is used. The construction was completed in 1901.
In addition to town planning, there were not a few shops in the building, as now boutiques would say. Therefore, it became known as the urban passage. For example, on the ground floor there was an elite sausage shop "Covalschi", which ended in 1940.
With the outbreak of World War II, the building undergoes destruction. The first time it was destroyed in 1941. The Romanians who occupied the city restored the structure, but then it was again destroyed, including numerous bombings.
After the war, the building was restored and restored. In 1951 the city administration again returned to its usual place. The building was almost returned to its original appearance, and in some ways even surpassed it.
