My PhotoVisions - Color Grading...

in #photography5 years ago

Hi Folks!

One quick question - what do You think about color grading in photography?

From one side - it helps to reach the right mood, it helps to keep some style on our gallery - thanks to that, we can easily recognize the author of the shot... it looks interesting, sometimes very artistic and unreal...

But from other hand - it changes completely the true light, colour, sometimes images are so heavily processed that looks completely different than in nature. Is it still a true photography or is just an artistic creation - like a digital painting...

Technique of strong colour grading is very popular these days - most popular on Instagram and I think it has its beginning there, because it helped to keep the same style of Your grid...
I am not a fan of Insta - because of really bad habits in following/unfollowing methods of searching new followers, because of many fake accounts with fake followers, finally because the pictures are so small, You cannot say anything about the quality of the shot - Instagram will "smallow" everything...

But back to the subject - If some of You still reading the posts and have some thoughts, let me know.

Below few examples of my own colour graded pictures.

I think, the only rule in art (photography including) is - manifest yourself skillfully. The ultimate item of photography is to tell a story and photographer can use whatever tools he likes to emphasize this story. He should master these tools though. There is no such thing as "objective photography". So why bother with self-limitations? It is all matter of taste and choice of photographer what visual look the picture will have in the end of post-processing.

Well said, totally agree with this point of view. Thanks for the comment @blastik!
