6 Awesome Photography Tips and Tricks for Beginners
The art of photography is a skill that anyone can master through practice and by utilizing a bit of thought. Here I’m sharing some essential photography tips for beginners. While it’s a good idea to invest in some decent equipment, for being a good photographer. Take a moment to think clearly about what you are trying to capture.
Some Photography Tips for Beginners:
1. Move in Closer
Whenever you’re taking a picture you want to ensure that the subject or the main thing that you’re trying to capture fills the frame. For example, if you’re taking a picture of an animal from a distance, try to move in closer and closer while taking multiple shots, until the picture of the animal fills the entire frame as opposed to the background.
2. Check the Lighting
Whenever you take a picture, the last thing you want to do is to acquire a silhouette effect, means having your subject look black against the background. In general, when taking pictures outside, you want to ensure that the sun is behind you. Additionally, some other questions you should ask yourself is:
- How does the lighting affect your subject?
- Is the lighting being directed on the subject partially or completely?
- How does this affect the shot?
- Is the lighting bright to the point whereby the subject is squinting?

3. Take Quick Shot
One of the most important aspects of photography is taking the right shot at the right moment. You need to practice taking shots as quickly as you can. In some instances, your subject may fidget, move/fly away or just may be tired overall of waiting for you to take the shot, which will affect the shot in general. Through practice, you can capitalize on those unique moments that you may miss within the blink of an eye.
4. Proper Composure Regardless
If you’re partaking in photography for professional reasons or not, you need to ensure that you keep it balanced and beautiful. Some things to consider when composing your photos are:
- Keep the photo on a horizontal level
- Eliminate unnecessary elements within your photos by cropping them out
- If possible, place your subject in a background that suits them as opposed to where ever it may be
- Ensure that the subject is in the center of the photo
5. Focus on Your Subject
Whenever you’re trying to capture your subject, ensure that you eliminate all distractions that are in the background. This way your viewers don’t get distracted from the subject of the photo. In order for you to do this, just watch the borders of your shot and the edges of the frame that you will see through the camera’s lens.
6. Check the Sky
If you’re going to take a picture outside, chances are that the sky will ultimately be in your background. Check the weather to see if you are okay with having the sky in the picture. A general rule of thumb to remember with this though is that you should avoid taking a picture outside if it’s overcast.
