Pictures from our Homestead #1

in #photography7 years ago

It was a lovely sunny day today so my wife and I went for a walk around our land.

Here are a few photos we took to show you a bit more of our place.

The first thing that caught our eye as we stepped outside were some beautiful redcurrants just waiting to be picked - yummy.

Before we set off I just needed to feed the chickens. Here are some of the birds from one of our flocks in the old orchard. These ones are getting old now (mostly 5 years old) but still laying well. We got 11 eggs today off 14 hens currently on active duty.

Over in the home field we've got a couple of dozen mature oaks - this one has wonderfully coloured leaves at the moment.

And on that same oak I found this delightful lichen. I wonder what species it is? Is there a lichen specialist in the house?

Nature, in time, will try to make everything beautiful. Here's one of our four blue cars - this one we bought for spares from a scrapyard. It's served its purpose and is now waiting to return from whence it came. In the meantime these two elegant foxgloves stand guard on the car.

Taking a peek in our overflow plastic greenhouse the oca are starting to appear. I've never grown these before (nor actually eaten them) - but I was inspired to try them by Huw's Nursery on YouTube.

Walking through the pig garden that we are currently clearing and bringing into production we encountered dozens and dozens of these baby frogs on the move. They were like little camoflauged jumping beans in the grass. I hope I didn't tread on any of them.

I hope you enjoyed this little picture portrait from our place in west Wales. I'm happy to post more photos if anyone is interested.

Absolutely beautiful! Soon I'm going to be planting a Urban Garden. Thanks for sharing I'm now following you 😁

Cool series.

Cheers @team101 - more coming soon

What a wonderful place you've got there. I see you have currants. I come to love black currant juice while I was working in Camp Bastion in Helmand Province in Afghanistan. Bastion was primarily a U.K. facility and we had access to some tasty treats that were different from the US. I would love to be able to grow currants here but they can tolerate the heat in my growing zone. Anyhow, I am rambling. Lovely place, keep up the good work. I know it seems slow but your efforts will be rewarded.
