Roadkill! A young warrior has fallen!
As I picked him up in the road my heart sank. Junior was dead!
I long for a time when there are no roads and no cars and no wars. This Jackal Buzzard and his parents live on the apple farm and I have been watching him grow until now, this day, this special Christmas day. And now this warrior youngster is no more, as he must have had a rodent crossing the road in his radar and he was too slow to get out of the way of a speeding car. So sad.
Let me show you his beauty!
Wings that will never fly again!
Eyes that will never scan for prey again!
Claws that will never hunt again!
We found him an isolated spot under the oak trees!
And at this spot we laid him to rest!
Fare thee well my little friend and we are surely going to miss you patrolling the skies over here. I also see this as a sign that our time over here has come to an end, as we will be moving out next week at the beginning of January.
Be that as it may your graceful flying habits will forever remain in my memory! RIP!

It was the best thing to do Lady Anneke, as it brought us closure, but I still feel sad to see his parents flying around and calling for him. Nature has perfected the art of healing and eventually the parents will nest again. All blessings to you for the New Year!
Same to you too - I had the same with a baby dove that fell from the nest - o it is sad to see how the mother searches for him...

It's so sad. This is very sad news.
Thank you Lady Madlen, it is always upsetting when a young life is crushed, but the impromptu burial helped us to find closure. Life goes on and we hope that there will be another youngster around soon. I am not a big lover of sadness and as long as we learn the lessons out of these experiences, then all will be okay! Blessings!
