The Reddish Ones, part one
There are three more red or reddish species of dragonflies in The Netherlands I haven't posted yet in this series.
They are called ruddy darter (Sympetrum sanguineum), vagrant darter (Sympetrum vulgatum), and common darter (Sympetrum striolatum). Their Dutch names are bloedrode heidelibel, steenrode heidelibel, and bruinrode heidelibel respectively. The females aren't red, but various shades of brown, orange and yellow.
These three can be hard to tell apart, as you can't reliably determine their species by size, shape, or colour, and you have to look for features like yellow stripes on their legs, the size of the black stripe on their foreheads, and so on.
I must admit I usually don't bother and just take photos.

Nice dragonflies :)
Pictures to die for. Wow.
Your photos are amazing, and I can't stop zooming in and looking at every detail.
Dragonflies are such beautiful creatures, their wings so delicate. They look so breakable, yet I know they are pretty tough little things.
Yes they are, and great hunters. It is nice to watch their antics from a comfortable place in the sun.
Simply stunning creatures, the one on the barbed wire is my favourite!
