Peat Bog Cuties
These are photos of the European tree frog (Hyla arborea), boomkikker in Dutch.
They live in and near peat bogs in my region of The Netherlands, but they are quite rare and difficult to find, also because they are small, at about 4cm (1.6") in body length for an adult.
Once you have found them, however, they are easier to photograph than other frogs, because they usually are asleep or on their way to a place to sleep, in their favoured bramble bushes, where they feel safe.
It is always nice to have the opportunity to photograph rare species, but these have the added bonus of being very cute.
Well, I think they are.

Oh my goodness, that pose and sleepy eyes are so sweet. I know I shouldn't anthropomorphise, but darn if frogs and toads don't seem like wise old men who sit on park benches and espouse wisdom to no one. Wonderful shot too!
Thanks. Yes, they look sweet and wise and cute, but, well, they aren't 8-). Still, it is hard to make good photos of animals without anthropomorphising.
It's just so hard not to put little human virtues and lives onto them, they are so enticing.
