Only One Angle Available

Without climbing a tree, this was the only angle I could find to photograph this damselfly. Not that I'm complaining; I like the way the photo turned out:


Olympus Stylus 1s, 300mm, ISO125, f5.6, 1/500s

I like this shot for its composition, but it is not an optimal photo for species determination.

Still, there's enough here to see that it's a large red damselfly (Pyrrhosoma nymphula), vuurjuffer in Dutch. A male, if I'm not mistaken.

            Ha! You are amazing! You could do an ID from a quarter mile away! And I wouldn't put it past you to climb the tree to get the shot. Love the perspective.

                    It is far from complete; there are quite a few of the rarer species I haven't seen yet. I don't usually actively search for them though, I just walk around and photograph what I see.
