Next spring flower up: wood anemone

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

After the snowdrops, winter aconites. and the lesser celandines, the wood anemones (Anemone nemorosa) are now also in bloom in The Netherlands.

In spring, these flowers take advantage of what sun they can get on the forest floor, before the trees sprout new leaves and shade everything.

I took this photo two days ago in the forest. These wood anemones usually grow in groups and can cover large areas of the forest floor in flowers, but just a few are out there so far.

Note that the sap of these plants is poisonous and can even cause blistering of the skin, you may want to keep your children from picking them.

Here are some photos of the previous bodes of spring, starting with snowdrops:

A few snowdrops outnumered by winter aconites:

Lesser celandines (called fig buttercup in the USA):

And, of course, crocuses; not native here, but they have been around for centuries:

Thanks for watching!

Great job! Thanks for the fun!

Thank you.

@ocrdu I dug the winter aconites in the moestuin :O
I wish you posted this earlier ..
they're invasive though I hope I pulled them all out I think dang!

They are not native here, but have been around for a long time, especially on large estates with formal gardens. They do like to spread ...

Really nice Flowers, good Job my Friend :)
