Caterpillars: Drinker

This is the caterpillar of the oddly named drinker (Euthrix potatoria), rietvink in Dutch. The caterpillar can be up to 8cm (3.2") long, quite large as caterpillars go.

It is found in Europe, most frequently in marshy places. This particular one was photographed in the Buurserzand, near Haaksbergen, The Netherlands.

The male moth is orange-brown, the females are more yellow, and both have a nice pattern:
