Brain fried, core dumped

in #photography7 years ago

Not a real brain (or core), of course, just a big golden jelly fungus aka yellow brain (Tremella mesenterica), with a small part of it to the side:

Olympus Stylus 1s, 42mm, ISO200, f5.6, 1/100s

I found this one on the forest floor, which couldn't be right, because they only grow on wood. Some digging revealed an old tree root under it though, so there is no need to change the text books.

Sort:

@ocrdu this looks like mouse ears but then they're yellow
suddenly I want to make some Japchae with it - I mean mouse ears hahaha

I don't think these are eaten, they have no flavour and the structure of gelatine or rubber. Maybe vegans could use them as gelatine replacement, but at their own risk.

@ocrdu uhmmm.. I think the color says it already - am not edible :)
but it's cute yes?

I like your sleuthing to determine the underground substrate. Sure it helps with the ID. Very Sherlock of you. Great clarity and color. Thanks for sharing your finds of the woods.

You're most welcome.
