More Green Hairstreaks

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

Strangest thing: I saw one of these for the first time this year, after many years of looking for them, and now I seem to encounter them everywhere without looking for them: the green hairstreak (Callophrys rubi), called groentje in Dutch:

It seems you don't find what you are looking for, only what you are not looking for:

Not that I am complaining; it is a very pretty little butterfly. This one didn't even sit ridiculously high up in a tree, unlike these ones I posted earlier, so I didn't have to climb up.

This afternoon, I will be searching for a very rare and elusive dragonfly called northern emerald (Somatochlora arctica), so I'll probably find something else.

That really is a pretty butterfly.

it is. Here are some more photos of the same species, I have been seeing them all over lately.

Wonderful little creature! Its color is very unusual!

Yes, it is, not all that good for camouflage but very pretty!
