More green hairstreaks!

in #photography7 years ago

More what? Green hairstreaks (Callophrys rubi) are butterflies. About two weeks ago I saw one of these for the first time in my life, and I made a record of that on the blockchain.

As these things often go, not a week later, on a walk in the Haaksbergerveen near the German border in The Netherlands, we saw a tree full of them! I took some more photos, because it is a really beautiful little butterfly.

Here's one eating:

Here's one unsuccesfully pretending to be a leaf:

And finally, a portrait shot:

Some unusual antics involving trees were required to make these photos, but nobody got hurt.

The color of the wings reminds me of lime sherbet.

Now that you mention it ...
You think of food often, don't you? 8-)

Unique perspective on the last shot! :D

Indeed 8-). The little rascals like to sit up high in trees, wings closed, tilted towards the sun. You have to either climb a tree or stretch out to get photos. It forced me to use frog's perspective for the portrait shot. I worked out OK, though.

Good job not falling out of the tree! :)

I have never seen one of these beautiful butterflies. Thank you for sharing.
