Spring Nostalgia /part I/
This photo was taken with my most favorite lens of all time - my hacked Helios 44-2. It's a 58mm vintage Russian manual focus lens that used to come standard with the Zenit film cameras a few decades ago. It's a lens with a lot of character and a very distinct swirly bokeh. All the swirliness in the background was achieved in-camera thanks to this lens.

My Helios 44-2 has been modified to significantly enhance the swirly effect and I'm really in love with it and the beautiful bokeh it produces. Besides hacking it to enhance its swirliness, mounting it on my Nikon D90 body was really easy with a simple adapter ring that allows mounting any old M42 screw-on lens on a modern F-mount DSLR.

No, those are not cherry blossoms. Those are the blossoms of a tree or shrub called European cornel or cornelian cherry that is actually pretty different.

Thank you! :) It's not a hard thing to do at all - the front optical element of the lens was simply flipped over.

It's really nothing complicated. The lens has a number of glass lenses that make it up. You need to unscrew the ring that is holding the front glass lens (the front optical element), take it out and put it back in reversed. That's all. If you type "Helios 44-2 mod" into youtube, you will find tutorials and you can select one that is clear to you.
