The Magic Horse

in #photography7 years ago

Sea horses are very unusual creatures. Due to their appearance and color, they have long become favorites of photographers. However, it is not easy to make a similar photo. By the way, I have for only more than 10 years of shooting there is only one frame (this one) where the sea skates are swimming. And there are several reasons for this.

First, Pygmy seahorse is one of the smallest fish on the planet. The size of an adult horse usually varies about 1 centimeter, and some can be half the size.

Secondly, they are inextricably linked to their coral. Usually a big gorgonian. They imitate its color and texture. Find a skate hidden between the branches is extremely difficult, even if you know roughly where he is. He looked at the camera, that's all. We must search again.

Well, finally, sea horses with the slightest threat are hiding, trying to be on the other side of the coral from danger. For this reason, in almost all the photographs, skates are inside the coral and not in front of it. This frame is a combination of incredible luck, patience and good will on the part of a small animal. The truth is that to make it I had to considerably exceed the dive time, both for shooting and for the subsequent decompression stop ...

Looks like a "pregnant" male with that belly. They don't really get pregnant, as there is no attachment to a uterus and each egg is individual, it is more like a gestation incubation pouch. The female passes the eggs into the males pouch and the are fertilised in the transition process.

sometimes dive time is something to exceed when seeing something remarkable :-)

As long as you have enough air for a decostop and don't have to pee during the decostop ;-)

peeing is fine, warms up your wet suit, it is number 2s which could cause problems...

hehe, know exactly what you mean. Especially with all those tropical 'coral countries' having a spicy kitchen :-)

yeah, that. Bali Belly is the most common term for it around here, even if you are not in Bali.

The other one always funny is someone throwing up through their regulator. Can we say BURLEY!

Ohh its real picture .
Are see horses colorful?
How long do see horses live on average?

Pygmies, the color depends on the coral on which they live. Have same color.
"Large" sea horses are different. I saw very colorful. But there are very gray and ordinary.

What is that in the back, their coral? It makes for an amazing background texture & the colors match!
