Little Jumper - Hasarius adansoni

in #photography9 years ago

Salticidae spiders are always a joy to photograph, sometimes a bit frustrating as they don't really take direction well!

One of two male Hasarius adansoni spiders that have staked out the house. It's a bit like having a very very small cat, they are free to come and go and help to keep pests down.

They're cute too! You can click on the photos to see them even closer!

In this photo, the top portion of the fangs can be seen; usually they are hidden behind the palps. He may have been surprised by the flash.
The white patches on the palps help other Hasarius spiders see them, and they use these to communicate, disputes over territory and courtship displays.
