@thermoplastic OH COOL! Wow....for the steam engine train, what year do you think was that train??? There's a sense of beauty it had shown signs of its hard work (wear and tear marks) yet they are a part of important history! Hahah love it you post a photo of yourself for the last photo haha....good ol' days, I'm sure the memories brought a smile to your face hehe :) Upvote to support

there are several locomotives on those tracks, but seemingly all the same models. They are DRB Class 52 built between 1942 and 1950. They are quite common and were in use in several countries in Europe and Russia. They were retired by ÖBB (Austrian Railway) in 1976.
Conversely, in Canada steam engines were replaced by diesel in around 1965, a few years before I arrived. We still had "Firemen" (that had job security) when I first started working for the CPR: they were just along for the ride on the diesel engines, with nothing to do. But their wages were frozen at the 1965 level, so they did not earn very much, except when with their seniority they could advance to an engineers job.
About that photo of me: I was about 26 or 27 years old and quite slim (not anymore today, lol). The rules were loose in those days - now you have to wear protective clothing (no bare top!) and you can't see it in this pic, but often I also worked with cowboy boots instead of steel-toed work boots.

Wow thanks for the history! Interesting that steam engines were around til '65 meaning diesel has only been around for around 50 years or so. Hahha....would have thought it'll be rocking to see your cowboy boots for work haha! Yeah bare top will not pass safety standards nowadays lol!
