Difference between focal length in macro reversed lens
For today, I wanted to share with you different kind of focal length combined with reverse macro adapter so you can see what magnification you should expect to get. These photos were taken yesterday after rain that was pouring like crazy, nothing new about that.
What I used for this was my trusty Sigma 28-70, camera Canon 600D and macro reverse adapter. Let' start comparing photos and its focal length.
So by going all the way to the 28mm reversed, I'm getting around 1:1 magnification which is not that great for me. You can take great photos with this magnification but you are getting a lot of useless background.
Camera | Lens | Shutter speed | F-stop | ISO |
---|---|---|---|---|
Canon 600D | Sigma 28-70mm @ 28mm | 1/80 sec. | f/8 | 400 |
Moving to ~50mm, that is a different story. Here you can see full size with a lot of details on certain place where you focused and also leave a place for a background so viewer can see its environment.
Camera | Lens | Shutter speed | F-stop | ISO |
---|---|---|---|---|
Canon 600D | Sigma 28-70mm @ ~50mm | 1/80 sec. | f/8 | 400 |
Moving to 70mm, this is where you are focused on details of your insect, especially eyes. For this kind of magnification you will need steady hand and some strong light source that will freeze your subject, like flash for example.
Camera | Lens | Shutter speed | F-stop | ISO |
---|---|---|---|---|
Canon 600D | Sigma 28-70mm @70mm | 1/125 sec. | f/8 | 400 |
You can see clearly different photos and magnifications that one lens can bring when you reverse it to become macro lens. I already told you few times before, this lens was only around 10$ with macro reverse adapter. Really cheap but yet great for this kind of photography.
There are two more photos that were taken yesterday, just a interesting things that I've found. This first one was amazing to me, I used only Sun as a light source and it created strong contrast on photo and isolated drops pretty well.
I just wanted to mention one more thing about this lens, that I don't like. That is aperture blades, there is pretty few of them, 6 to be exact. Why is this bad? You can see in droplets photo, you can clearly see that it has 6 blades that doesn't look pretty good in photo and it is making distraction from the main subject.
Anyways I was amazed by the results that this lens is giving. Thank you for stopping by. :)
wow, really neat macro's!
Thank you! :D
