Magic Moments - Westminster Storm

in #photography7 years ago

Time for another magic moment. And what a moment it was as a storm rolled in over London while I was waiting for sunset at Westminster Bridge a few years ago.

The day had already been very unpredictable weather-wise. It was a mix of showers and sun, which usually bears great photographic potential. So I went to Westminster Bridge and positioned myself on the opposite side of the river Thames from the Houses of Parliament.

I had intentionally selected this position, because there was a bus stop just 50 meters down the street and this made it very easy to time my photo with the red busses driving into the frame. Using a slightly longer exposure I was able to introduce some motion blur to give the photo a bit more of an artistic feel.

Westminster Storm

But what made the photo that evening was the dramatic sky. Dark rain clouds moved in just for sunset and this created an awesome display of light. Just a minute after I took this photo I got drenched and had to run for cover. But it was so worth it.

This is just a beautiful shot. I love the blurred red London bus. It give the feeling of the hustle and bustle of London!. Great work!

Very nice! 👌

I like how you explained your thought process as people don't understand what goes into making an image.

Keep up the phenomenol work - and I look forward toward seeing what you come up with in 2018!

High 5's from Boston 🇺🇲

Thank you Mike. Hopefully we'll get some snow soon so I can start taking photos in the new year :-)

Careful what you wish for! It's been a snowpacolypse here in Massachusetts.

I taking about water breaching sea barriers and cars being frozen in the water.

Plus yesterday it was real feel temperature was -25 degrees Fahrenheit below zero.

Brrrrrr😨

Ok, this is a bit drastic. Here it's just storms and rain but the rivers are also already flooding the surrounding countryside. Strange weather

The clouds really make this photo. And I have read your story behind with great pleasure!

Really nice shot. That sky is amazing and love how it almost reflects the shape of the bridge. Great work.
