The Yorkshire Teddy Bear Tea Room.

in #photography6 years ago

The grand old duke of York, he had ten thousand men, he marched them up to the top of the hill, and he marched them down again! Okay, enough with the children folk songs, but more of today's little feature which is the Yorkshire Teddy Bear Tea Room. This is a building on Stonegate that's coming up to 700 years old and outside of it, there is a huge teddy bear with the name Charlie. It's purpose, is to invite you into this emporium of all things teddy bear and get you to take a few of them home with you to be your forever friends.

An interesting little bit of information is that the infamous "Guy Fawkes" - yes the guy who tried to blow up Wesminster and Parliament with it, lived along this very cobbled medieval road called Stonegate. Not sure how this ties in with the teddy bears but that's another mystery to be uncovered another time.

Of course it's not all teddy bears, and around this quaint little town, you'll find all sorts of apparel and other accessories worth taking a serious gander at.

Just take a look at this beautiful jewellery, it's simply amazing, I can't get enough luxury out of it. All of it is locally made, or even handmade by the owner and is very reasonably priced. Put some kind of brand name on it and it will be worth 100x more!

Still, the teddy bears always feature the most here. In 2005, two people called Charlotte and William Morris created the "Charlie Bear" name and since then has created a whole teddy bear collecting culture there.

This is the big Charlie Bear I was talking about earlier which stands outside to greet you inside. It's life size and actually quite a big bigger than me. You could almost pass it off as a real bear, just a very cute one!

Inside, the corridor and staircase leading up the house is very narrow and very cluttered, fill of interesting memorabilia of this very historic and story full town.

Being the "Original Teddy Bear Shop", you can imagine there are a lot of unique pieces of history to this place.

One of the interesting things about this teddy bear shop, is that upstairs, it is a place to have breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea.

Their foods are made to order and they source their ingredients locally. Certainly, the cupcakes draw a lot of attention, especially given how multi-coloured they are.

The teddy bear tea room is truly a fascinating place to visit and the bears are ever so cute as well. If you ever find yourself near York, then you know where to go!
