During my time in Geneva I came across many architectural influences that maintained distinct styles. It was very easy to identify the different blocks or certain buildings that had come from different eras or influences. There is a great presence of Gothic Architecture in Geneva, St. Pierre Cathedral is an excellent specimen of this style and I was inspired and amazed when I first laid eyes on it. With much history in its roots, there is also a fair portion of modern design and architecture throughout the city. Many of the recent designs incorporate designs of steel and glass facades. I enjoyed exploring the many styles both modern and historical during my stay.

For instance, in the age of the Romans, Italian vernacular design would take residence in Switzerland. There is much to see in the way of ancient architecture throughout the country and Geneva is no exception to this. Switzerland has some of the oldest buildings known to us and it has been recorded that houses built far back into the prehistoric age were present in Switzerland. This is an incredible part of history and I came to understand that the Romans had much influence during their era. It’s possible to visit various historic ruins around the country and to discover Roman Columns that are still standing to this day. For instance, the Columns of Nyon are remnants of the fortifications of Geneva.
