Sherlock Holmes Museum

When I was learning English and reading some of the most famous literatures from England, I picked up a series by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. This was perhaps one of the most captivating fiction stories I have read to date and I absolutely loved following Sherlock and Watson on their crime busting stories. The Sherlock Holmes Museum is exactly what you may think it is. Everything is dedicated to the Sherlock legacy and it even has the number 221B (same as Sherlock’s flat in the story). This would not be allowed normally but the City actually authorised this, a sweet tribute to one of London’s most successful fictional heroes. When I think of England, Sherlock definitely comes to mind and it was great to finally visit this privately run museum that is located out in Baker Street (no surprise there).

Interestingly, the museum can be received with mixed feelings by some. Sherlock Holmes was a fictional character, thought up by the brilliance of Sir Doyle. The museum must be treated as a fictional walkthrough what the story depicts, almost like a coming alive experience. The amount of detail that goes into the exhibits is quite astounding and I have to conclude that the association which runs this establishment are the very most hard-core fans of the series that have dedicated a great deal of attention to creating this experience.

I have always loved how the stories are thought out with an intelligent structure, a plot twist was waiting at every corner. The latest rendition of Sherlock as a TV series is probably my favourite outing since the older movies. Benedict Cumberbatch was able to bring out an interesting version of the detective to the stage and I thought Martin Freeman’s role as Watson was perfection. It really did capture the personalities that were introduced to me many years ago and then gave a modern twist to it all. I especially loved the Christmas special where we see these modern characters play their roles in the traditional setting, a great tribute and throwback.

The museum is filled with so much memorabilia and is an absolute must visit for Sherlock fans. When trying to get a taste for some British Heritage, the Sherlock museum is probably a fun experience. Perhaps similar to a Harry Potter studios visit. Regardless, the Sherlock Museum is a great visit and can be covered in just a short while, leaving one pliantly of time to hit up the other local attractions, for which there are many.
